Social media has a negative affect on the general public because it takes away from face to face interactions in everyday encounters.
-Bullying
-Business Communication
-Ability to hold conversation face-to-face with people
-Decreased productivity
-Privacy
-Isolation
-Self esteem
-Addictive
Social media is a young but rapid growing way of communication. Users of social media already know of the many benefits it has to offer but need to be aware of the negative impacts it can have on an individual such as my supporting points.

Interpreting Thesis
This episode of Bullshit has many claims about college including the social norm that you have to attend college to be successful, colleges advertise diversity, cost of school, and diversity has to do with being brainwashed. The primary claim is that college students are brainwashed by society because all they hear about is job markets, diversity, and what good college will do for them. This episode was focused on the idea of college kids going to school because it was the norm. They used examples like diversity, drinking, and the reasons actual students attended college to back up this claim. The use of interviewing actual college kids was okay because supported their claim that they are brainwashed. Although they used a small sample size not giving it the support they needed to gain enough credibility. Good examples included St.Cloud State University and what they have done to try and create more diversity.

Topics in this short story include immigration, Mexican culture, background information about the character, and his frustration with republicans. The message of the story was to educate to the reader about the life of a Mexican immigrant who came here illegally but married an American citizen. The character strives towards obtaining his citizenship and shows so by explaining his effort put in to provide for his family. He explains to the reader how he has worked his way up to higher paying jobs just like his grandfather who came to america many years before he did. He talks about how he is unable to become a citizen because he had already got deported back to mexico once and was strictly told to not come back. His anger and frustration with the republican side of the government is great because they always shoot down bills that democrats propose to help benefit people like him. He fears that one day he will be deported back to mexico and be separated from his daughter and wife. The purpose of this essay was to prove that not all illegal immigrants are bad people. The writer wants to show the reader that we are all alike and erase stereotypes towards Mexican immigrants. The writer was trying to communicate to audiences that can help him change what is going on.
The short story "Our Brave New World of Immigration" includes topics such as out of sight out of mind, fleeing the scene of a car accident, illegal workers, fake identification, cheap labor, and inexperienced drivers. The message of the story is to prove that the U.S. doesn't have strong enough laws that prevent undocumented workers. This short story was written to help bring attention of the dangers that come along with undocumented workers. This story is indented for people of america, voters, and democrats to read. The writer is very confident about his thoughts, he gives some examples like the car accident and how it caused a major traffic jam, costed the state thousands of dollars, and how they have not only affected him but others to.

TED Talk Response
The broad topic of this ted talk is gossip and how it documents our history. The woman who is speaking to us is a professional gossiper and does it for a living. She proves to us that gossip dates back many years ago and it is who we are. The idea that is established is that our successors determine who we were based on our gossip history. She brought up the story of Chris Brown and Rhianna and how Chris beat her up badly. She then brought up the gossip about John Travolta and how he allegedly was having an affair with another man. The point she was trying to make is, who do we want to go down in history as? people who forgave a man for hitting a woman? or even go down in history as someone who forgave someone who would rather have an affair with a man rather than a woman? In the end we should be more careful about who we support, and what they have done in the past because it can tell a lot who we are as people.

Perception of Poetry
Poetry to me is a way for people to write about experiences in a informal way. Its a way for a writer to describe to the reader what is going on using descriptive dialog. I do not enjoy reading poetry as much as I enjoy reading non-fiction because I find it difficult to pick out the meaning of poem. Although I think one of the reasons poetry exists is to try and stump the reader to make them think it can have multiple reasons why it was written.

Reality
Global warming seems to be masked in reality by the people who cause it. Not just global warming but air pollution and different weather patterns that are caused by humans seem to be ignored. People are educated on the situation so much by media that you would assume they would take action and try to make a difference. But in reality many people don't because they do not want to change their current lifestyle. An example I can think of is the type of car you drive. Many people drive cars, trucks, and SUV's that do not get great gas mileage and pollute the earth. But in order for that to change they would have to purchase a smaller or more efficient car that does not fit their taste in cars.

What Do I Replay The Most In My Head
In my head I constantly replay some of the most basic things and the most complex things. Most of the time I am always thinking about the week ahead of me and what I have to accomplish for the classes i'm taking. Other thoughts I constantly think about are rules of life like if you do not ask the answer will always be no.
Reactions to readings
This story was full of emotions. At first the father of the boy showed frustration because he was wearing a wig that he found in the trash and had no idea where it had been. The father seemed to experience a sense of deja vu when he connected that his wife had blonde hair and she had been sitting in the same spot the day she passed away. Time seemed to stop for a minute as he hugged his son establishing a connection with his wife through his son.

Interpretations
1.
-A large bird
-Art
-feathers covered up
-pollution
-Sea bird
I think this artist is trying to convey the image of littering. The bird appears to be covered in multiple things you would find on the ground like food wise. I think the meaning is don't litter because it affects the animals.
2.
-Guy falling from the sky
-Movie advertisement
-someone dancing upside down.
-part of the date is red and part is black
When I look at this picture I immediately think of a movie advertisement. It is very bland and I think that is because it makes people curious possibly want to see that film.
3.
-starving child
-Hawk behind the child
-dealth
-selfish
What I see when i look at this image I suddenly think of world hunger. The bird in the background makes it look like in order for one to eat one has to die. It is a very harsh thought but that's what comes to mind.

Reflection on feed back
The peer review ended up going better than expected. The person who reviewed my essay gave me some really good ideas on how to better my writing so it can be as good as possible. They also pointed out some minor spelling errors that I should change. I wasn't very surprised about any of the feedback I got because I prepared for the worst. All in all I am happy we were able to peer edit each others papers.
Peer Review
The peer review we are going to perform in today's class makes me feel nervous. To start off I would never consider myself as a strong writer. Therefore peer edits can be embarrassing but then again very helpful. I am also nervous because figuring out a topic to write about for this paper was a challenge for me.
Things that I believe will need to be worked on is sentence fluency and grammar. I find it challenging to read what I just wrote and pick out what might be a error. What I expect my classmate to say is along the lines of you have the idea you may just have to reread it a couple more times to see what fits and have someone else peer edit it again.

My First Job
One day after school I went over to my dads office to hangout and catch a ride home. While I was there my dad was in a meeting with a gentleman about a piece of real estate he was selling him. When the meeting was over my dad introduced me and him. The guy seemed to like me and offered me a job to work with him over the summer. As a money hungry teenager I immediately said yes and took the job. That summer I showed up to work and the guy handed me a shovel and told me I had to dig a hole for a egress window that had to be 8ft X 6ft. My jaw dropped, I was unsure if i was going to be able to dig this hole. At the end of the day I had gotten a little over half of the hole dug and then went home. I told my parents I didn't want to do the work any more and I wanted to quit. They insisted on me staying and powering through and see what happens. So the next day I showed up and finished digging the hole. By boss was pleased with the work I did and put me on a new job that I enjoyed doing. That day I learned that you need to have a good work ethic in order to get what you want. Nothing you want in life is just going to come to you, you have to earn it.

Rough Draft Personal Narrative Critique
1. I noticed the writer
was very descriptive; I liked how she used a simile when talking about the
elevator door vs. the subway door and how they closed. I thought this was a
creative way to help the reader picture what they were reading. They also did a
good job of describing the items that didn’t make her happy like the Coach
shoes, Miss Me jeans, and Sidekick phone. She also did a good job of sticking
to the main point of the essay.
2. While reading the
essay I noticed some major improvements that could be made. Her spelling errors
were repetitive and her sentence structure needed some help as well. She could
also use some help rebuilding her paragraphs so the story would flow better.
This essay doesn’t meet many of the grading rubrics. For example her
organization, level of development and mechanics needed a lot of work.
3. After reading
this essay I would like to ask the writer how much time they took writing the
paper. I would also ask if they had anybody peer edit the paper. Last I would
ask where is this Harry Potter theme park in Chicago?

Confession...
Growing up my friends and I would always have sleepovers. We would always sleep over at one of our buddies house because we knew his parents liked to go out on the weekend and stay out until bar close. All four of us saw opportunity in this to go out and do what we wanted. So as we pleased we would go out on the night and rome the neighborhoods playing games like ding dong ditch. When Halloween came around we would go out and smash pumpkins and try to find whatever we could get our hands like dumb little yard ornaments and bring them back to our little hideout we called the "nook". As time passed we ended up growing out of it. Even though we never got caught I still look back on the things we did and wonder why in the hell did I ever think of doing those things.

Social Media Blog
In today's world many people choose to express themselves via social media. I went on Facebook to see what I could find out about people. I randomly picked one individual to "judge" who seemed to express them self a lot through social media. The biggest thing I noticed while looking at their profile is their interest in their loved one. Many of the pictures that they posted was either of the loved one by them self or the person with their loved one. The individual's showed on their wall they enjoyed sharing funny videos for other people to enjoy. Interests the person showed were shoes. They really enjoyed shoes and collecting them. The person seemed as if they had to be up to date on the new Nike Jordan's other wise they were unhappy. Over all this person is portraying themselves as a materialistic person. They need to have a lot of things that are new and top of the line to feel the need to post about them. But when in reality it makes them seem as someone who enjoys showing off the things they have to possibly try to make people jealous.

The time in my life when...
I was a freshman in high school everything was going great first semester flew by I had done really well in all of my classes and then my mom decided to get a job at the high school I was attending. At first I was devastated I didn't like the idea of all my teachers being able to talk to my mom whenever they would like. Even though I was never a bad kid I still had that worry that my teachers would bring up that missing assignment from last week to my mom and I would have to hear about it later that day when I would get home. Anyways as time went on I soon discovered that is wasn't such a bad thing having your mom being at the same place you were everyday. I learned that I could go get some gum whenever I needed some or even an allergy pill. As the years past nothing ever went wrong and I soon forgot that she even worked there until one day in my senior year I decided I had a long day and I didn't want to attend my last math class of the day and go home a little early. So I did and I skipped my last class. I thought I was so smart by burning a little time so I could show up at home at the normal time as I usually did so I went to Jimmy Johns and got a sub. I then went home and showed up at the normal time. Everything was alright until the next day when I got home my mom asked me why I didn't show up to my last class the day before. I immediately turned bright red and told her why and she ended up telling me she was more upset with me because she was embarrassed that she didn't know where I was when my teacher asked her. That day I learned how important it was not to let down your mother.

First Blog Post
Happiness can mean a lot of different things to many people. Since there is not an actual definition to the word happiness I would like to share mine with you. Happiness to me would include success, wealth, love, passion, and family. Happiness to me is very important because I believe it is a major part of someones life. Without it I feel as if life would be very dark and you would not be able enjoy life to the fullest. I have a very strong passion for cars, wither it is driving cars or keeping up on the newest, fastest, or most technology advanced car. I find happiness in cars and by doing the things I just listed makes me the happiest.
